Pulling a sneaky one
I noticed something strange on Bear_Blog recently.
If you look at the top of this page there is a jobby advertising the BlogSpirit site. It's not on C's site any more. I wonder why? The company remove it when you start paying for extra services, so what has she paid for?
Now it may be that she needed to pay for more storage space? Hmm not sure about that. She also doesn't need any more bandwidth as she says I get more traffic than her (probably because she's always coming to my site) and I'm nowhere near my bandwidth limit.
The other options are that she's signed up for technical help. Not likely.
But the final option is that she now has multiple blogs from the same email addy. Now we might be getting somewhere. She's started a new blog that she doesn't want advertised (at least to those who know her).
Hmm? Any thoughts on what it could be?
Have fun.
PS The Leicester lot may wish to have a look here. This comment was prompted because of Adrian Lovell's letter here.
PPS new edit 28/1/06 - First part of back pain - treatment is up on PhysioMonkey. I'm also now definitely doing a shoulder workshop at Chocfest.

Health and Safety
Had to sit through the annual health and safety lecture this afternoon. Pardon me while I don't get excited.
There was one rather nice aspect though. She was wittering on about the legal framework of health and safety when she put a slide up that consisted of a large white elephant. Most appropriate. She'd also put lots of headings within the outline of said elephant. Her "joke" was that you had to get all the elements of the elephant to be within the law. I thought it was just a jibe at H&S nazis.
The other nice thing was that the word "Fire" was written next to t'elephant's bum.
Have fun.
PS Have a look at PhysioMonkey and what'dyou reckon about new article(s)?

Why I'm a grammar pedant
I heard this stated on the radio this morning relating to a fracas at Old Trafford.
"Something's gone off in the players' tunnel."
Just read that again but shift the apostrophe one character to the left.
"Something's gone off in the player's tunnel."
Puts a whole new meaning to the phrase doesn't it?
Have fun.

God botherer watch
This is a letter lifted from the Mercury.
"Reading about the opposition towards Jerry Springer - The Opera (Mercury, January 12), I can fully understand how people can be offended by the show, and also do those involved in this show realise that they are not only offending many people of the Christian faith but also God himself?
As God is omnipresent and omniscient - He sees everything and knows everything - He is the one who will be most offended by these non-God-fearing people, who one day will have to give an account to God for their lives. "
Where do I start on this one?
In the first paragraph I am particularly enamoured of the way this person appears to know god's will. Just how many things are wrong with that premise in the first place?
Then there's the "Don't they realise they're offending people" crap. Hard luck; people deserve offence. It should be obligatory, and joyful offence should be the norm rather than an occasional shamefaced "well I didn't understand it was bad" type offence.
Demanding thought and reason (in this case "watch the damned thing and make up your own mind") must make you question things, and if your faith comes out at the end it must surely be stronger, what have you got to fear (apart from doubt)? In many cases all "offence" seems to mean is "makes me think of things outside my safe zone". If you are unwilling to question then you are already mentally dead. What is the point of continuing your life when there's nothing else to learn from it? Oh that's right you've been forbidden to end it voluntarily as your god doesn't actually want you to visit him any time soon (I can understand that). Self righteous patronising drivel from a closed minded, thoughtless drone.
I suppose "spreading the word" is one of the obligations of certain faith groups so nothing unusual in this bod trying to get this drivel published. I am slightly surprised that the Mercury printed it though. Perhaps they're after a good reposte from someone (I'm not rising to it, at least not in the paper).
Next paragraph:
"As God is omnipresent and omniscient - He sees everything and knows everything - He is the one who will be most offended by these non-God-fearing people, who one day will have to give an account to God for their lives. "
If god were to be offended does this in any form of Christianity mean that their kind, caring and loving god will damn me to an eternity of torment for wanting to defend people's right to use the free will he apparently provided (to do something that harms no-one)? That is not the definition of loving, caring and compassionate that I know and use.
I've said it before that if this person's god is real and that judgemental over minor issues like this then I for one want nothing to do with him/her/it. How could this person live in heaven knowing that basically good, moral and decent people are burning in hell forever just because they wanted to go and watch a bloody play (or in my case just defend their right to do so)? If they could live with that then I would say that they don't deserve the place in heaven they obviously believe is there waiting for them. I hate stuff like this. This is why I never saw the light. How the hell can this christian ever claim to be morally correct or superior beggars belief. But apparently us athiests have no moral compass. Toss.
Arrrhh.... that's better. Calm now.
Have fun.

Disgraceful
Time for a Bernard Manning on Brass Eye rip off.
"Today a grammar pedant puked up his pelvis bone when he saw this on his toothpaste box:
It's a bloody disgrace."
I mean it's Proctor and Gamble, they must surely be big enough to employ someone who actually speaks English. What is going on?
Have fun.

Taking over the world
Haha my probable lack of influence spreads yet further.
Got a letter on teletext at first time of trying. Actually it's only a video game comments page but there you go (309 on channel 4). And it's rather short.
They're doing a thing on the most frustrating time you've ever had as a gamer. So mine reads:
"Super Monkey Ball, Expert level 7. If you've been there you'll know."
And that's it.
Have fun.
PS This entry about the right length for you D?

Question for the IT lurkers
I've a problem with my internet set up.
I'm happily working or browsing on the net and everything works fine. Then for some reason a regular website of mine stops being accessible. For instance tonight after writing the previous entry here the damn thing stopped me being able to access blogspirit to perhaps edit things further or write a new entry. I've had to reboot my router to allow me to re-access this site to be able to type this out. Previously it has done the same on my photos page but there it allowed me to see the page only without any pictures. Not a great deal of use for a photos page you'll agree (unless you don't like my photos of course). Again this will work properly again if I re-boot the router.
What is going on?
Anyone any clues? Virus check comes out clean. Symantec check comes out clean. Haven't got a spyware checker at the mo. This likely to be the problem?
Have fun and "ta" for any good ideas.

Show Me Love
No not a sad and lonely cry but the first fillum in the Lucas Moodysson set.
This film was notable for the BFI putting it on a list of fillums they thought every child should have seen before they reached 15. This is odd as it's actually rated a 15 in the UK.
Thankfully it's not as depressing as Lilya 4-ever. The setting is a school in a class of 14 year olds. You could watch any American high school film and see the characters that were in this film only the actors were better than the usual (and much better Swedish speakers).
Plot: popular girl bored with small town life. All the boys fancy her as does female class nerd. The nerd is from another town and has no friends. Rumours abound she's gay. Turns out rumours are true. Popular girl messes with nerd's head a bit, realises she's being a cow. Happy ending.
See that last bit was more than a little bit different from Lilya.
Enjoyed it loads. The actors were great and the supporting characters were well drawn even if the leads were a little stereotypical. One slightly distracting point was that the popular girl's sister really looks like Vicky Pollard.

Worth a look if you like euro-cinema and are not pathetic enough to whinge about subtitles. Incidentally why do people not like subtitles? It's far less distracting than staring at people's mouths as they move randomly to badly spoken lines. Perhaps they think that by reading a tiny bit they'll miss something. [Edit: "sigh"]
Have fun.

Ooooohhhhh!
Ooh-yah!
Through the marvels of satellite tv I've just been watching the European Ice Dance championships. Not usually terribly exciting but there was something I've never seen before.
One pair were cracking on with their act when he had to lift her above his head. So he's picking her up and she's well on the way to flying above his head supported by his manly arms. Anyways his blades hit a rut in the ice making him stumble and she falls down (from about 7 feet high at a few miles per hour too) and smacks into the ice. Ooh-yah indeed. She managed to turn away so that her face didn't get smashed but the replays showed her bending horribly the wrong way. Bless her she did have a discussion with her coach about whether she should carry on from that point. Rather sensibly they decided that that wasn't a great idea.
[edit] Found this pic of the event.

Oooohhhhh
Have fun.

Famous friends
I've bored people enough with the old news that my mate Ana looks like Mila Jovovic. Well I've just watched The Hitchhikers film and Trillian was played by Zooey Deschanel. I spent half the fillum thinking that she looked just like our pal Nicky (of scary fillum night fame). What d'y reckon?

Have fun.
